Beyond Automation: Building a Better HR Workflow With Primepoint’s Lisa Lapeire

When you ask Lisa Lapeire about HR technology, she doesn’t start with software or features—she starts with people. With decades of experience guiding organizations through the maze of modern HR, Lisa has seen firsthand how the right workflow can transform processes and daily work for employees and teams. In this conversation, she shares her perspective on building better operations, supporting clients through change, and why the human side of technology matters most.

How does workflow automation help HR teams do their jobs better?

Lisa: Workflow is more than just completing digital forms—it’s a process orchestration layer that connects people, tasks, data, and approvals. The real value comes from collaborating with clients to understand their process, then leveraging our technology to automate and improve it. We don’t just digitize inefficient processes. We help teams rethink how the work gets done—and then use our solutions to make it better.

What does it look like when Primepoint’s technology makes HR processes more efficient?

Lisa: It looks and feels like a weight has been lifted. We worked with a bank recently that needed to assign an internal business number to new hires—a process that wasn’t managed by HR, which led to delays. We built a workflow with secure, automated forms and notifications, which eliminated manual steps and security risks. The business number is automatically assigned and mapped, populating all relevant forms and approvals. What had been a major frustration became straightforward and efficient. It saved significant time—no manual emails or duplicate data entry, and everything is secure. The client was thrilled, saying, ‘This is amazing. This has been such a frustrating process for us, and now it’s seamless.’

What sets Primepoint apart from other HR/payroll tech providers?

Lisa: It’s the people. We believe technology is only as powerful as the people using it. We care about our clients—many organizations have small teams managing multiple responsibilities. We see ourselves as an extension of their team, helping them embrace technology and simplify their processes so they have time to focus on other priorities.

How is Primepoint’s technology built to grow with a company?

Lisa: The most valuable part of Workflow is that it can evolve as clients become more comfortable using it and as their business needs change. We start simple, and as clients gain experience using the solution, they begin to see all they can accomplish with it. The question becomes, ‘What process can we improve next?’ Our platform is robust, giving us the flexibility to introduce new capabilities as new opportunities emerge.

How do you support clients in adopting new systems and make sure they’re easy to use?

Lisa: We focus on building trust with our clients. Sometimes the decision-maker isn’t in HR, and teams are asked to switch systems, so it’s important for us to be sensitive to that, connect personally, and listen to understand their perspective. We perform extensive testing, and if something isn’t intuitive or doesn’t make sense, we address it and share the feedback with our development team. Many enhancements come directly from our clients.

How does Primepoint help HR work with other departments, like finance or operations? And how does automation help with compliance and paperwork?

Lisa: Those relationships are important. Workflow connects stakeholders—HR, payroll, finance, managers—keeping everyone aligned and making sure nothing gets missed. For compliance, we help clients build processes that capture and manage information needed to support their compliance obligations, including requirements under laws like New Jersey’s Pay and Benefits Transparency Act. We don’t provide HR policy advice, but our technology can help clients incorporate those requirements into their processes.

Can you share how you tackle operational challenges for clients and how you know a solution is working?

Lisa: We worked with a New Jersey municipality where the employee change approval process had been stuck for years—lots of paper, multiple approvals, and incredibly complex. We spent many months working closely to transform the process, maintaining momentum through changes on the client’s HR team. Today, the process is fully digital—no more lost paperwork or chasing signatures. Before going live, both our team and the client thoroughly test every step. We don’t transition clients to our support team until we’re both confident the solution is performing as intended, and we’re always available to help.

What’s the big benefit when companies finally get these systems in place?

Lisa: It’s a stress reliever. Teams no longer track information across multiple systems—they can manage their work within one platform. The time saved gives them more time to support employees and move the business forward.

What excites you most about this work? And what is your personal philosophy at work?

Lisa: We love using technology creatively to solve problems, but what really excites us most is when clients get excited—when they realize how much easier their processes have become and how much time they’re saving. There’s something particularly rewarding about taking a process, breaking it down, and finding a better way to do it.

I believe how we approach work matters. When we stay curious, listen carefully, maintain perspective, lead with a positive mindset, and genuinely care about finding the right solution for each situation, people notice and appreciate it. At the end of the day, our goal is to develop technology that delivers a better experience for our clients.
